Agree with so many of these but heeaavvyyyy on listening to whole albums! Iāve never been much of a playlist person for this reason, I just love hearing the story the artist made for us.
i watched a video on doechii sequencing alligator bites never heal and it changed my brain chemistry. i feel like reading out of sequence is wild; shouldn't listening be too?!
i've been wanting to write an essay about ARTPOP for a long time now. i think it presents so many questions about art and who's the "artist" hiding behind it. the phrase "my artpop could mean anything" get stuck in my hand for days sometime, there's so much to say about. she was beyond at that time.
Riz Ahmed has said a similar thing recently when he was releasing his Hamlet film. Iāve been trying to read his work more recently to try and make my own mind up about it (the way itās taught in school makes it sound so snooty so I was repulsed by it). The olives thing too is something Iāve noticed I actually like now, specifically the kamlata onesāI think thatās what theyāre called. Excellent takes all around!
my conspiracy theory is that the British elite have been co-opting the bard precisely to keep us from rebelling in the arts and claiming theatre for ourselves again. i'm so glad your dipping your toe in. it's so much fun!!
That actually sounds pretty accurateāart can move people to feel so deeply & reorient grand ideas in such a digestible way. And thanks, Iām feeling like itās feeling easier to be open to it with that frame shift.
a seat at the table. who does the table serve? making it as a minority is not proof of the systemās success.
I could write 10,000 essays about this but you summarized it in two sentences. Aināt nothing sexier š
Also, hard agree on pretty much everything here. Iām in my thirties and I promise you, the flower really starts blooming here. You will not be disappointed.
Lowkey: ngl, larry fanfics scarred me a little 𤪠though not more than PLL. The idea that a grown-ass man could actually believe a 15yr old was his age is so pedo-coded š¤¢
Hot take: admitting that fr, some of the best stories Iāve ever read in my life have been fanfics and to think these beautiful artists shared their art-babies with us freely⦠well, bless their souls š„²
Dates are my olives; versatile little globs of glucose that taste divine sweet or salty, naughty or nice š gimme.
Iām liking this list, but as a 28 year old literally just starting to learn anything about anything, Iām pushing for an early 30s takeoff
I wish you all the luck in the world š
i think i can get on board with every single take except olives- i fear they will ick me out forever
i hate olives but do love tapenade n sometimes, if mixed well enough, they do add the right amount of umami
im trying very hard not to be parasocial about this
the only parasocialism i encourage pertains to me šāāļø
you know what, I find people (men) lauding efficiency and hating beauty the most vain of all

looking back I wonder how PLL didn't scar me for life lmao
This felt less like a list of opinions and more like a love letter to curiosity. The willingness to revisit, reconsider and evolve is underrated š¤
