thank you for writing this!! as someone who studied journalism i never agreed w 'neutrality' when it served the purpose of normalizing/ validating the oppressor. what weight do words carry if not used for moral good? if not read to alter the status quo? each palestinian journalist that is now a martyr at the hands of zionism is so heartbreaking

thank you for reading it. i agree with you wholeheartedly; the neutrality lie has allowed callousness to become editorial policy. there should be no respect to 'the other side' or journalistic leniency if the the other side is perpetuating a genocide. knowing that there are other reporters who feel the same is comforting 🫶🏿

This is such a profound and impactful piece Ayan and one which needs to be heard 🥹 as an aspiring journalist myself, it’s sickening to even think that Western journalists aren’t standing up for what’s right bc they’re so rigged by the messed up system nowadays. This piece is a reminder that this MUST change one way or another and I hope it gets the coverage it deserves 💯

You embody what a journalist should be and remind us all of our responsibility to share what we see and condemn the state violence we witness. I appreciate you sharing this with us here

thank you for writing this!! it really well articulated this general feeling of unrest that i’ve had about journalism and how performative the western news looks when reporting on the war. I appreciate the fact that you took time to write and share these feelings it means a lot
